Dr. Dawn-Lynn McTaggart, MD, CCFP (now retired)

Dr. McTaggart graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1995 and from the Community-Based Family Medicine residency program in 1997.  She worked in Lynn Lake, Tadoule Lake, Brochet and Lac Brochet, then moved her practice to Teulon to work in the hospital as well as the Teulon Medical Clinic,  She then moved her practice to Birchwood Medical Clinic in Winnipeg before settling at Kingsbury.  When she is not working she enjoys running, reading and visiting with friends.

Dr. Alexis Botkin, MD, FRCPC *ON LEAVE 2024*

Dr. Botkin is a Dermatologist, Board Certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  She completed her undergraduate degree in science, as well as medical school at the University of Manitoba in 2010.  In 2015 she completed the 5 year dermatology residency program at the University of Toronto.  

Dr. Botkin is a published author with scientific articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, including the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, Dermatologic Surgery and the Journal of the Dermatology Nurses' Association.  

She enjoys contributing to medical education through the U of M undergraduate teaching program as well as sitting on the examination committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Division of Dermatology.

THE PRACTICE

Our Practice

 

Our practice at Kingsbury Family Medical Centre is family medicine based and we focus on patient-centred care.  We also have a dermatologist, allergist and sports medicine physician available for consultations.  We believe in a team-based and collaborative approach to take care of you and your family's health care needs.

From newborn and well-child care to caring for the elderly and everything in between we are here to be your family physicians and your medical home.  We work with allied health care providers such as our nurse and physician assistant and also have access to additional services through our affiliation with the WRHA My Health Team such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietitian services and pharmacist support.

Dr. Tamara Buchel, MD, CCFP

Dr. Buchel finished her family medicine residency in 1994 and has been practicing family medicine for the past 25 years.  She has lived and worked in several settings in the United States including New York City and with Mayo Clinic both in Rochester, MN and Scottsdale, AZ.  She has been back in Winnipeg since 2004 and has worked steadily since then with a busy practice that includes both inpatient and outpatient work.  She has also been heavily involved in teaching over the years and has strong involvement with the Manitoba College of Family Physicians as their Executive Director.

Dr. Kathryn Glazner, MD, CCFP

Dr. Kathryn Glazner received her Bachelors of Science and her Masters in Pharmacology and Therapeutics from the University of Manitoba.  She then pursued a Doctor of Medicine (2010) and Family Medicine residency graduating in 2012.  Dr. Glazner started private practice in July 2012 and started working as a hospitalist at Seven Oaks hospital in August 2012.  She is now the Medical Director of Family Medicine at Seven Oaks General Hospital.  Dr. Glazner enjoys improving hospital processes via the standards committee.

Dr. Kristin Heinrichs, MD, CCFP

Dr. Heinrichs has been a practicing family physician since December 2012.  She has a full-time family practice as well as participates in hospitalist work for approximately two weeks per month at Seven Oaks General Hospital.  She is also a physician on the Medical Assistance in Dying team in Manitoba.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg and a Bachelor of Nursing degree and medical degree from the University of Manitoba.

Lisa Bonds, PA

Lisa graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies in 2013.  Prior to that she completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology.  Since 2013 she has been practicing as a Physician Assistant under the supervision of these wonderful physicians in the Seven Oaks area.  When she's not at work she enjoys travelling with her husband and walking her boxer dog Willie.

Dr. Gail Sawa, MD

Dr. Sawa has completed various degrees from the University of Manitoba and has earned her Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (Physical Therapy), Master of Science, Bachelor of Science in Medicine and Doctor of Medicine.  

As an athlete, Dr. Sawa has been involved in sport from a young age including elite gymnastics, track and field, as well as rhythmic gymnastics where she is a coach and a competitor in the sport.

Krystal, RN

Krystal is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree.  She will be supporting the clinic as a Primary Care Nurse.  Krystal is married, mother of one with 13 years of nursing experience within Emergency and recently in an Ambulatory clinic that focused on bone, joint and soft tissue injuries.  She has a special interest in providing care to patients in the community and is looking forward to working with you in providing your care as part of your healthcare team.

Dr. Melanie McCannell, MD, CCFP

Dr. McCannell completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in 2005 at the University of Manitoba before going on to finish Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 2010, followed by a family medicine residency at the University of British Columbia ending in 2012.  For the first few years of her practice Dr. McCannell worked as a locum in Manitoba and in British Columbia until she opened a private practice in Winnipeg and began working as a hospitalist at Seven Oaks hospital.  Dr. McCannell also works on a personal care home ward at Riverview Health Centre.

Dr. Carrie Lafournaise, MD, CCFP

Dr. Lafournaise received her Biochemistry degree from the University of Winnipeg in 2001 then graduated from Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 2007.  Residency in family medicine was then completed in 2010.  She worked in remote fly-in communities with the Northern Medical Unit from 2010 to 2012.  She has had her own family practice sine fall 2012 and added hospitalist work at Seven Oaks Hospital in 2013.  When she's not working you can find Dr. Lafournaise outdoors hiking or in her garden, snowshoeing, curling or coaching kids' sports.

Dr. Jaimie Law, MD, CCFP

Dr. Law completed a Bachelor of Science degree in 2003 and graduated with her Medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 2009.  Her Family Medicine residency training was completed in Manitoba in 2012 and she has been in private practice since then.  Dr. Law also works as a family medicine hospitalist at the Seven Oaks Hospital and is part of the provincial Medical Assistance in Dying team.  When she is not at work Jaimie can usually be found in a hockey arena with her kids in the winter or in her garden in the warmer months.

Dr. Erin Olivier, MD, CCFP

Dr. Olivier received her Microbiology (Hons) degree in 2004 and graduated from Medicine at the University of Manitoba in 2009.  Residency in family medicine was completed in 2011 and she has had a private family medicine practice since 2012.  Dr. Olivier has also worked as a hospitalist at Seven Oaks Hospital for the past six years.  In her spare time you'll find Dr. Olivier and her husband running after their four children on the soccer fields or in various other activities.  

Allergist & Immunologist

Dr. Uliana Kovaltchouk, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Kovaltchouk is a Royal College specialist in the fields of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.  Her fellowship training at Western University allowed her to be trained in both pediatric and adult allergy and immunology.  She holds Royal College certification in Internal medicine.  Dr. Kovaltchouk treats and manages all allergic and immunologic conditions including food and seasonal allergies, recurrent hives, angioedema, asthma, eczema, chronic rhinosinusitis, eosinophilic esophagitis and immune system disorders.  

Her special interests include: 

- severe eczema and contact dermatitis

- seasonal immunotherapy

-pediatric food oral immunotherapy

-targeted treatment of allergy driven conditions with monoclonal antibodies.

Welcome to Krystal our new Primary Care Nurse.  Primary Care Nurses provide nursing services in the areas of assessment and screening, health promotion, illness prevention, chronic disease management, clinical intervention, palliation, rehabilitation, counselling and patient education.
